Attention: Susan Forseille, PLAR Director, and Assessors
Thank you for the opportunity to present my competency-based portfolio for the PLAR program at Thompson Rivers University. I chose to pursue PLAR because my work, volunteer experience, and professional development reflect significant university-level learning. This pathway supports timely degree completion while honouring my commitments at work and at home, and allowing me to spend more meaningful time with my children as I continue my studies.
In this portfolio, I’ve included experiences that have significantly influenced my growth personally and professionally. The primary areas I highlight in my Identification of Learning are Counselling & Trauma-Informed Practice, Specialized Education, and Creative Learning & Development. These areas have flourished through my roles in public education and youth services, as well as ongoing professional development (e.g., Therapeutic Play and CPI). Together, they strengthen the competencies presented in my Demonstration of Learning and illustrate how I apply my learning across contexts to support students, families, and teams.
Creating this portfolio has proven to be a challenging and simultaneously rewarding learning experience that has deepened my insight into my learning and professional development. Thank you for your time and attention, I look forward to the opportunity to connect with you and discuss my learning further.
I am requesting 30 Applied Studies (APST) credits toward my Bachelor of Arts, Major in Psychology, with the lower-/upper-level credit allocation (up to 15 upper-level) determined by the assessors based on the learning demonstrated in my portfolio.
Sincerely,
Ashley Jewer
